Visionary and vision

Larry Broughton
One of my favorite speakers at Craig Duswalt’s Rockstar Entrepreneur Conference was Larry Broughton. He spoke several times during the conference and I always found golden nuggets in what he had to say. I’ll be sharing more quotes from him in the coming posts, but today I’d like to share this one:

“Don’t confuse being a visionary with the ability to bring forth a vision.”

On the surface, this could sound like a “duh” thing to say. A visionary is the person with the vision and the bringing forth that vision usually requires a variety of skills. However, entrepreneurs — especially new or inexperienced entrepreneurs — often fall into the trap of believing they can bring forth their own visions by themselves.

That is rarely the case. Effective visionaries not only can develop and create powerful visions, but they can also pull together and motivate the teams that will bring those visions to life.

Creative businesses are made like movies — they are team efforts. A director cannot make a movie alone, just like a creative entrepreneur cannot build a business alone.

If you have a clear vision for where you want your business to go, don’t think you have to bring that vision forth alone. Do what you do best and build a team of people who can do the rest.

If you are struggling with the clarity of your vision, I can help. Go to carmaspence.com/freesession to schedule your “Unmuck Your Brilliance Now” laser coaching session. At the end of our conversation, you’ll

  • be crystal clear about your vision for your creative business … as well as the kind of income you want it to generate
  • break through the hidden barriers that may be crippling your success in business and life
  • feel refreshed, revitalized and ready to finally create the business you love once and for all.
