Edible books from the gallery at www.books2eat.com

This is a little off topic, but so much fun I had to share: A festival that speaks to my heart of hearts. The International Edible Book Festival is an annual event usually held on or around April 1. Libraries and other book-loving venues across the world will be holding this festival on Monday. Imagine, a festival that celebrates books and food at the same time!

Competitors create edible renditions of books in the hopes of taking home the prize for the most realistic book. The book can be confection or casserole, souffle or sandwich. It doesn’t matter, as long as it looks like a book and is 100% edible.

I know of festivals taking place at Duke University Libraries, UCLA Library, several places throughout Seattle, University of Illinois and others. You can probably find one in your area by Google-ing “edible book festival + your location.” You can also learn more — and view gallery of photos of edible books — at www.books2eat.com.

But wait! Maybe this isn’t as off topic as I thought. Think about this: How could you harness the creativity of your ideal audience to create fun promotional items for you business? Could you create a contest, festival or other event that allowed your tribe to have fun and express their creativity while promoting your cause? Please share your ideas or aha moments in a comment below.

    Carma,

A kindred spirit! Science fiction writer, which is how I started, and you love Halloween, which has always been my favorite holiday. Still is. We’re doing Ravenwood’s Night of the Living Dead on two weekends in November (Ravenwood is a perfect location, isolated, creepy, surrounded by forest) so you can see this problem child has never quite grown up!
Regarding Eat your words, ANYTHING that gets people close to books is a PLUS!
