There are five mistakes I commonly see authors, speakers and coaches making with their website’s design. In a presentation I gave to Toastmasters District 1 Speakers Bureau in September of last year, I discussed what they were and how to avoid them.
The fourth mistake is the lack of a compelling reason to continue the conversation:
Gone are the days that “Subscribe to my newsletter!” will grow your list. You need to give people something they want, something they value, before they will give you their name and email address.
Your opt-in gift needs to be several things:
- Compelling to your target market
- An integral part of your marketing funnel
- Actually of value, and
- Visually appealing
In addition, it needs to be in a format compatible with your visitor’s technology and learning style.
