You don’t need to fit in with the herd to be loved.

“We have to dare to be ourselves,
however frightening or strange that self may prove to be.”
~ May Sarton

What this quote means to women entrepreneurs:
I used to have a T-shirt that had a group of penguins standing in a line. One in the middle was wearing a T-shirt that said, “I gotta be me!”

That shirt spoke to me so deeply that when it got too old, I turned it into a pillow.

There are no two people exactly alike and that’s a beautiful thing. So why do so many of us spend so much energy trying to fit in and be like other people?

Some of this comes from peer pressure during our youth. And this leads to fears, insecurities and other mind gremlins that have us believing that who we really are is somehow wrong or unworthy or not good enough.

It takes courage to stand out from the crowd to “let your freak flag fly” … but it is a worthy endeavor.

As an entrepreneur, there are people who are looking for what you and you alone can deliver. They are hungry for your personal take on whatever it is you do. However, they will never find you if you don’t bravely Own Your Awesome, unveil your true self and dare to share that awesome sauce that is you with the world.

I know first hand how easy that is to say and yet pretty damn terrifying to do. I still pull back from sharing my whole awesome self at times. But we are all works in progress, and if you can take baby steps each day or week in the direction of standing in and for who you truly are, you will be amazed at how amazing your life and business can be.
