Power Thought: Keep believing in yourself

“The minute I let go of the belief that things will get better is the minute I know they won’t.”
~ Snow White, Once Upon a Time, Season 3, Episode 1

What this quotes means to business:
The new season of ABC’s Once Upon a Time began this Sunday and while I was watching it, I was stopped by what Snow White had to say (quoted above). This season is going to have a lot to say about belief as the main characters travel through Neverland, a land where belief is key.

But belief is key in our land, as well. What you believe, you will see. If you believe that you are a success, your mind will find evidence to support that belief. If you believe you are a failure, your mind will find evidence of that, as well. What would you rather believe?

All day long, our ego chatters at us, often pointing out our failings and challenges. But there is another voice there, as well. A still, small voice, as the Four Dames put it, that speaks to us of possibilities. The key to living a life you truly love, filled with doing things you are enthused about, is turning the volume down on the ego voice and the turning the volume up on the still small voice.

Saturday, I attended a workshop and retreat with the Four Dames and came away with many insights, some of which I’ll be sharing over the next several days on this blog.

“Look for the good and praise it,” said Marilyn Macha, the Dame on the Domain of Wealth, at the workshop. This is excellent advice if you want to keep your hope alive.

Viktor Frankl, the author of Man’s Search for Meaning and a Nazi concentration camp survivor, discovered that those who kept hope, faith and belief alive were more likely to survive the concentration camp experience. Those who didn’t usually did not.

If you want to live the life you dream of, you need to believe in that dream and believe in your ability to achieve it. “Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms — to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way,” wrote Frankl. You have the power to choose your thoughts … and the beliefs those thoughts support.

Wayne Dyer says that what you think about expands. Since you can choose what you think about, why not keep the belief that things will get better? Why not focus on that? Think of the glorious life you want for yourself, then take daily action (even small, seemingly tangential action) toward that goal.

And find help to support you on that journey. Hire a coach (like me or the Four Dames!). Surround yourself with people who believe in you. Do everything you can to believe in yourself, step into your power and own your awesome in all areas of your life.
