Beth, Season 4, Episode 12, The Walking Dead, “Still”
What this quote means for entrepreneurial authors:
If you aren’t evolving, you’re stagnating and dying. So, it is fairly safe to say that who you are today is not who you were yesterday. And yet, so many of us are haunted by our past selves, allowing the shadow of past deeds hold us back from living into the transformed person we are today.
As Bob Newhart said in a rather funny Mad TV sketch, “Stop it!”
This also applies to your body of work as an author. Your second book will not be the same as your first book. One hopes it will be, in some way, better. But either way, it won’t be the same. Each book is unique and should be judged on its own merit.
As you approach each new day and each new project, give your best as it is today. Don’t let past setbacks color your passion, motivation or drive. Allow the lessons you’ve learned through the experiences you’ve been through give you new insight and perspective.
Always focus on who you are today. You are a new person, an evolved person, a changed person. Remember that. The past is prologue, not necessarily divination.
