Day 12 of Celebrate You!

Celebrate You! Daily Quote:

If the sight of the blue skies fills you with joy, if a blade of grass springing up in the fields has power to move you, if the simple things of nature have a message that you understand, rejoice, for your soul is alive

“If the sight of the blue skies fills you with joy,
if a blade of grass springing up in the fields has power to move you,
if the simple things of nature have a message that you understand,
rejoice, for your soul is alive.”
~ Eleanora Duse

Yesterday, Day 11 of the 31-Day Celebrate You! Challenge, I celebrated being alive … by experiencing a wide range of emotions. I laughed. I cried. I was amused. I was thrilled.

I laughed: While on a walk, I saw two pigeons “fighting” over a piece of bread. The bread was too big for their beaks, but they kept pulling it away from each other anyway.

I also caught up on that latest episode of Last Comic Standing, one of only two reality shows I watch (the other is Face Off). Joe Machi, who I’ve been rooting for, was particularly funny that night. But, alas, he ended up being the one to go home.

I cried: When I went to facebook to post the daily quote in the Celebrate You! group, I found on my home page some shocking news: Robin Williams had died … at only 63 … and possibly by suicide. I was shocked. I had just been talking about him and his wonderful work with a friend on Sunday! And then I read the article about it and there was a quote from his wife. She said she had lost her husband and best friend. That did it — I was in tears.

It brought to mind an experience I had many years ago with a mallard duck. It happened shortly after moving to Tampa, Fla. I saw a mallard trying to “wake” his mate. He would lift up her head and let it drop. She was dead. His dedication and obvious distress at losing his mate really got to me. I cried, off and on, for hours.

I was amused: While walking home from an appointment, I came upon a flight of pigeons (that’s what you call a group of pigeons — I looked it up) and all but one flew away. This one pigeon chose to, instead, look very nervously at me and walk very fast. Why do they do that?

I was thrilled: Every week I attend a meeting that raffles a fun gift to one of the attendees. So far I’ve won some nice toiletries and a cool statue of Buddha. Yesterday, I won some rather cool all-day Cover Girl lip gloss. It doesn’t really last past a meal, but it is the perfect color for me! You can see both the Buddha and lipstick in this pic taken this morning while recording an episode of The C.A.P. Podcast. (Click in the image to see a larger view.)

How did you celebrate you yesterday?
