Be clear on your website's purpose

There are five mistakes I commonly see authors, speakers and coaches making with their website’s design. In a presentation I gave to Toastmasters District 1 Speakers Bureau in September of last year, I discussed what they were and how to avoid them.

The first mistake is lack of clarity:

You have to know what you want your home page to achieve in order to know if it is being effective.

  • Do you have a target market you are trying to reach?
  • Can they recognize themselves when they land on your home page?
  • Does your home page have a clear purpose?
  • And is it effectively achieving that purpose?
