Pay attention to your own wants and needs.
Have you ever sacrificed yourself on the altar of another? Be it your job, your significant other, your family or your friend, giving in to the wants and needs of another without thought of yourself can be a very dangerous habit. If done too often, it can lead to depression … and worse.
Today’s Journal Exercise:
Today, listen to what your body, your mind, and your heart tell you. Then do something to satisfied your need. For example, if your body is telling you that you have been sitting down too long, get up and stretch. Walk around the room — or the block. Get up and move. If your heart is telling you to spend more time with a special person, schedule some time to do just that. If your mind is telling you to clean up your home office or email box or to take a break and do something else, take those thoughts seriously.
It is easy to get caught up in your to do list. Your body, heart and mind will tell you when you need to focus on something else. However, you need to be listening and then pay attention.
Leave your journal out today. Note in it every time your body, heart or mind “tell” you something and what you did. Then, at the end of the day, journal about how listening to yourself made you feel.
