Which do you think will make you happier? Being down on yourself or being up on yourself?

Many years ago, I did an experiment. I decided to try not only thinking about myself before others for a change, but also accepting compliments when given. It was really hard at first. I was so used to being a “second class citizen” in my own life — even to the point of feeling invisible — that doing nice things for myself and saying “thank you” when complimented was really foreign and felt uncomfortable.

However, after a few months, it got easier. And after a year, I noticed that my feelings of self worth and confidence were greatly enhanced.

Like Louise Hay suggests, why not try a little self approval once in while? Try it. You’ll like it!

Day 12 Exercise

  1. Approve of yourself at least three times today. Allow what you do to be enough. Allow what you feel to be OK. And, allow a compliment (or three) to sink in. Journal about how that feels.
  2. Catch yourself being Awesome at least once today … and celebrate it well.
  3. Continue to add to your list of what you love about you.
