Recycle Content - Old Becomes New - Weekday Wisdom Episode 86

In my book, 57 Secrets for Branding Yourself Online, Secret #32 was “Repurpose your content,” and I talked about repurposing and recycling your content. Now in that context, I was thinking more like take old blog posts and turn them into audios or videos, or take videos and turn them into blog posts, and things like that. But I’ve come up with another idea over this past weekend and I wanted to share it with you.

You see, I interviewed, 80+ people for my next book, Public Speaking Super Powers. And over the last two months or so, I’ve been reading these interviews and re-reading these interviews and pulling quotes from them and, basically, pulling the book together. And I’m noticing that there are some really juicy quotes and really wonderful information that was unveiled in these interviews that just doesn’t fit within the scope of the book. So it occurred to me, “Well, why don’t I take the content and turn it into blog posts?”

Yes, the content is already available on my blog because the podcasts are. I’ve been releasing the interviews as podcasts so you can listen to them. And you can download the transcripts and read them. But, sometimes the people I talked with had more than one piece of information. And so some of this valuable information could get lost in the shuffle if you don’t listen to a whole podcast or you don’t read the whole transcript.

So, what I plan to do with some future blog posts, is pull out those juicy chunks of information and create blog posts around them as I elaborate on what the person I interviewed said. This creates added value, reinvigorates old information that is still valuable, and helps promote the book. I’d say that is a win-win-win situation, right?

Your Recycle Content Action Step

If you’ve got some old video footage that has interviews, that is already out, or maybe you haven’t shared, revisit it. Find out if there are pearls of wisdom there that you can turn into future content. You don’t have to turn it into a blog post, it can become another video. It can become an audio. It can become a webinar or a PowerPoint presentation or a speech. You’ve probably been developing all sorts of wonderful content that, as it ages time-wise on the Internet, people have stopped paying attention to it. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t juicy and wonderful and valuable. So why not give a little refresher? Re-spin it into some new content, so the people can get this valuable information that you have to share.

Please post a comment belowSpeaking of which, if there is content in previous episodes of the Weekday Wisdom you’d like me to clarify, why not let me know in a comment below? And I can only do that with your help.

Remember this:
Don’t box yourself in.
Spread your wings and fly.
Because of you
— yes you right there … I’m talkin’ to you —
are capable of more than you realize.
