“It is not true that people stop pursuing dreams because they grow old,
they grow old because they stop pursuing dreams.”
~ Gabriel García Márquez
What this quote means to women entrepreneurs:
Does your business help you pursue your dreams? In other words, are your dream integral to or at least supported by your business? If not, you’ve got some work to do.
Interestingly enough, as I was sitting down to write this post, my mom sent me an article from CNBC called “Deepak Chopra’s ‘secret’ to making money” by Sharon Epperson. In it, Chopra indicated that passion was important. “Recognize that the purpose of money is to enjoy life and have good experiences and not use money to make money … to make money … to make money.”
What I get out of today’s quote is that when we let our dreams die, we move into a pattern of living day to day like a zombie. Our heart dies and without that spark our body, mind and spirit dies a slow lingering death that is experienced as “aging.”
Of course, there are aspects to aging we don’t really have control over — at least not just yet — but we do have control over how old we feel. People who feel young, no matter how old their bodies get have passion in their lives. They continuously go for their dreams.
Of course, Márquez is not the only one who discusses the importance of dreams. Here are some wonderful quotes from others that express similar ideas. Take inspiration and enjoy!
Believe in yourself and your dreams:
“Keep your dreams alive. Understand to achieve anything requires faith and belief in yourself, vision, hard work, determination, and dedication. Remember all things are possible for those who believe.”
~ Gail Devers
“Follow your dreams, believe in yourself and don’t give up.”
“It is better to risk starving to death than surrender. If you give up on your dreams, what’s left?”
~ Jim Carrey

~ Napoleon Hill
“Let your dreams outgrow the shoes of your expectations.”
~ Ryunosuke Satoro
Defend your dreams:
“Follow your passion, be prepared to work hard and sacrifice, and, above all, don’t let anyone limit your dreams.”
~ Donovan Bailey

“Consult not your fears but your hopes and your dreams. Think not about your frustrations, but about your unfulfilled potential. Concern yourself not with what you tried and failed in, but with what it is still possible for you to do.”
~ Pope John XXIII
“Remember your dreams and fight for them. You must know what you want from life. There is just one thing that makes your dream become impossible: the fear of failure.”
~ Paulo Coelho
