This month’s theme is “Creating Business Partnerships.” Throughout January, my posts will be exploring the many ways that we create partnerships within our businesses and how to leverage them to grow our business.
“Helped are those who create anything at all, for they shall relive the thrill of their own conception and realize a partnership in the creation of the Universe that keeps them responsible and cheerful.”
~ Alice Walker
You’ve probably never thought of it this way before, but when you go into business for yourself, you are creating a business partnership with yourself.
Employees don’t need to do this. They just go into work, do what they are told to do and go back home. Their partnership is with the company, with their boss, and with their co-workers.
But when you are the business owner, you need to hold yourself accountable. You have a very strong vested interest in the success of your business. You must be disciplined to do the work that needs to be done to grow your business.
It may sound a little multiple personality, but you need to think of yourself as your business partner. You need to create, maintain and keep a contract … even a covenant … with yourself. All the things you would want from a business partner, you want from yourself, as well.
