Online Marketing for Photographers

In an earlier post, I talked about online marketing for artists … focusing on painters, sculptors and the like. Since photographers are artists, too, so all the tips I shared will also work for you.

But there are things photographers can do that don’t necessarily work as well as for other visual artists. Here are some of them:

Post to Stock Photography Sites
Websites such as Shutterstock, iStockPhoto and Fotolia must get their stock photography from somewhere. If you are good at taking photographs that are both powerful and generic, you could create an income stream by making some of your work available for sale on stock photography sites.

Online Coupons
Of the many social coupon websites out there, Groupon seems to be the one with the most traction. You can create a daily deal for your services that you only need to honor if a minimum number of clients take you up on your offer.

Local Online Marketing
Unless you want to travel with all your gear all over the place, you should be emphasizing the local in all your online marketing. Add your location to the coding of your website, mention your location in your article marketing, and make use of local marketing sites such as Google Local, Local Facebook Pages, and others.

LinkedIn Marketing
If your ideal clients are professionals, maintaining a presence on LinkedIn could be a use of your time. Members of LinkedIn tend to have higher incomes than members of Facebook on average, so they should be able to pay for your services!
