Love Your Life

I’ve said this before: “The more you appreciate, the more you have to appreciate.” Therefore, if you want to live a life you love, you need to love the life you’re living.

Does this mean you need to love every moment, even when things aren’t going well?

Yes … and no.

What this means is that you should appreciate the appreciation-worthy things, people and moments of your life. Be it the butterfly you saw during your morning walk, the quick email of appreciation from a friend, to the scrumptious sandwich you had for lunch. It means notice the bright moments — the wagging of a dog’s tail, the laughter of a neighbor’s child, the smell of your significant other’s favorite jacket — and appreciate them.

The more you appreciate these moments, the more of these moments you’ll notice and be able to experience and appreciate some more.

But beyond that is also means appreciate the lessons from the not-so-fun moments. What did you learn from that break up? How can you grow after that big fight? What silver linings can you find from the loss of a loved one?

I’ve cried through my losses, but I’ve also made a habit of finding my silver linings. I do my best to learn my lessons from the painful moments of life and take away something positive from each of them — including the loss of my little sister a couple years ago.

It may not be easy at first, but if you persist, it will get easier. And as you grow from each lesson and experience, you’ll find that you attract into your life even more brilliant moments to appreciate.

So I urge you to love your life as it is now so that you can build a foundation for an even better one tomorrow.

A good way to start building this habit is to keep an Appreciation Journal. In this journal you want to list:

  • Things you’re grateful for each day
  • Your successes for the day
  • Your blessings for the day

To make this easier for you, I’ve created a template that you can download here. Print it out each day and make sure to complete it before day’s end. I find it easiest to jot things down as they happen.
