Invite visitors to continue the conversation

There are five mistakes I commonly see authors, speakers and coaches making with their website’s design. In a presentation I gave to Toastmasters District 1 Speakers Bureau in September of last year, I discussed what they were and how to avoid them.

The third mistake is the lack of an invitation to continue the conversation:

If you want to build a sustainable business, you need to build a list of people who are interested in what you have to offer. One way to do this is to have an opt-in form on your website, preferably above the fold. Make this opt-in form stand out from the rest of the page so that visitors will notice it and give you their name and email address before leaving to another website.
