I have this really cool mug that I received as part of a coaching program I belong to for podcasters. I don’t know if you can read it, but when I first saw it I thought it said, “Love is better than perfect.”

But that just seemed odd.

And then I read the letter that came along with it and it turns out it says,

“Done is better than perfect.”

That is so true.

It is better to get it done, than make it perfect. Because it will never, ever be perfect. And when I say “it,” that’s pretty much anything.

We are humans. Imperfection is our lot in life.

This is especially true for solo entrepreneurs when it comes to their websites, their business cards, all the things that they do for their business. They want to get it perfect. They want to get just the right colors, just the right images, and so forth.

Get it done! Get it done and get clients in.

And believe me, I know, I don’t always practice what I preach here. I am one of those people who just loves making things look pretty. But sometimes you just gotta get it done.

For example, I’m working with a coach now and we’re developing a new program that I am calling Facebook Live 101. And what I’m doing is I’m taking people through 5 Facebook lives that they do. I’m providing feedback on each one so that they get better and better and better. The idea is that by the end of the five Facebook Lives, they are feeling more confident and projecting a much stronger presence when they’re on live video, which, of course, translates to any kind of video.

I’m taking five people at no cost. These are sponsored spots. I’ve already got a couple of applications. If you’re reading this today or within the next couple days, I recommend that you turn in your application now so that you can grab one of those free spots! I’d love to have you join this group of individuals that I am working with to improve their Facebook Lives.

If you don’t get one of the five spots, it’s all good. I will be offering this program for the next five, for only $49. And then from there on the price will probably be $97. So get your applications in ASAP.

Anyway let’s get back to the quote. “Done is better than perfect.”

When it comes to your website, get it done. Just get it done and out there, because an ugly website is going to sell just as well, if not better, than a pretty website. Get it out there.

And these days, when it comes to things like blog posts, there are software that you can add in that will help you have your done a lot better than if you didn’t have it. For example I use a free version of Grammarly. You can do a paid version with more features, however I’ve found the free version serves me just fine. What it does is it catches incorrect verb use, commas, all that kind of grammar stuff.

When I’m in the zone, I’m not worrying about spelling and verb tense, I’m just getting my thoughts out. I clean it up later, and Grammarly helps me clean it later much more quickly.

Perfection is something that you will never achieve. So don’t wait for it. Get it done and do it.

This reminds me of a skit from, I believe it was Mad TV. You can find it on YouTube. Bob Newhart plays a psychologist who charges five dollars per visit. Basically what he does is listen to the client say something like, “Oh, I have this fear that I’m being buried alive in a box.” And he responds with, “Stop it.”

Well, that’s what I’m telling you to do. If you’re waiting for perfection, stop it. Get it done.
