Embrace all of you … even the seemingly silly. Let your geek flag fly!

When I was about five years old, I moved from East Africa back to the United States. About that time, I went from a fairly outgoing kid to a quiet, keep to myself kid. Part of that transformation was caused by the teasing I received from the other kids: I sounded strange because I had a British accent. And so I “learned” that being different was bad.

Lucky for me, I’m really bad at not being myself. And so I eventually learned … OK, it took me another 20-30 years, but I did eventually learn! … that you have to me true to who you are, even if other people don’t like it and may make fun of you.

You have to be willing to risk humiliation if you are going to find your own greatness. You have to be willing to fall on your face if you are going to be able to fly.

So go ahead, look foolish! Only the bravely foolish become truly great.
