Article Marketing Works Great with Blogging

by | Aug 17, 2009 | Marketing & Selling

If blogging and article marketing were people, they would would be living the best love story every seen. These two marketing techniques were made for each other like peanut butter and chocolate, like Piglet and Pooh Bear, like Abercrombie and Fitch.

But, like Abbott and Costello, the pairing can come up a bomb if not done correctly. Here are a couple Do-s and Don’ts when putting the synergistic power of these methods together to grow your business.

Do post similar articles on your blog and in the article directories.
People who find your article on dog training, aren’t going to be interested in your blog about cat training. Yes, both are pets … but not the same. OK?

In fact, there are several ways you can do this.

  • You can write an article and post it on your blog. Then edit it to make it at least 30% different and post that to article directories.
  • You can write an article and submit it to article directories. Then edit it to make it at least 30% different and post it to your blog.
  • You can write an article and post it to your blog. Then take the key points and expand them into articles to submit to the directories.
  • You can write an article and submit it to article directories. Then take key points and expand them into posts for your blog.
  • You can write an article and submit it to article directories. Then write a blog post about the article — why you wrote it, why its important, etc. — and point folks to the article on your favorite article directory.
  • You can write an article and post it to your blog, then re-write about the topic for the article directories.

Do not post the same article from your blog to the article directories, or vice versa.
Not only will this tactic potentially run you into duplicate content issues that will negatively effect your SEO, but it can create a bad customer experience. Imagine, a person finds your article on a directory, loves it and visits your blog only to find the exact same content there. Why did they bother?

Do put your best stuff on your blog and the teaser stuff in the article directories.
Be careful, though. You want your articles in the directories to be quality, informative stuff. But you can write shorter pieces for the directories and keep your more in-depth stuff for your blog. Of course, you could to the opposite, and that will work, too. Just choose which you wish to do and stick to that strategy.

Don’t mix up personality from your blog into your articles for directories.
Your blog is the right place to be yourself. Articles for article directories are not. Your articles need to be a bit more formal … remember, part of the benefit of submitting to directories is that others will post your articles to their sites. They won’t do that if the article is way to personal or doesn’t fit the personality of their website or ezine.

You want your blogging and article marketing to complement each other. Basically, your article marketing efforts should attract prospects to your blog so they will, in turn, join your list. And, being that they are both article based, this can be a simple thing to do.
