7 Tips for Outside In Awesome

Much of the time, your Awesome comes from inside. But sometimes you need a little support from the outside. Here are seven tips for Owning Your Awesome from the outside in:

1. Groom yourself every day. Whether people are going to see you or not, groom yourself well. This can mean wearing clean, tidy clothes, putting on basic make-up, or simply running comb through your hair before sitting at your computer. If you feel well-groomed — whatever that means to you — you can feel more confidence and secure.

2. Keep a blessings list. Write down who and what you are thankful for every day. Add to the list your accomplishments in life. What are you proud of? Sometimes we need to be reminded how blessed we really are and knowing that helps us Own Our Awesome.

3. Practice receiving compliments. So many of us forget to accept compliments graciously. A compliment is someone’s way of showing they appreciate you as you are. Accept it with a simple thank you and avoid downplaying or explaining it away.

4. Smile often, laugh easily. It is hard to have a negative thought when you’re laughing, and a smile is a universal light to others … even if they can’t see it. When you smile you change your physiology and chemistry for the better, helping you Own Your Awesome.

5. Nurture positive connections. Surround yourself, as much as possible, with people who are up-beat, positive and recognize your value and worth. Being around people who love and appreciate you — and who are not afraid to say so — helps you remember how special you really are.

6. Do something you are good at at least once a day. No matter how small or trivial it may seem, doing something you do well makes you feel better about yourself. It could be something as simple as arranging your lunch nicely on a plate. If it makes you feel good about yourself, do it, acknowledge it and relish the feeling it gives you.

7. Focus on your favorite features. What do you like about yourself? Focus on that. For example, I’m pretty happy with my ears and long graceful neck. I also like that I laugh easily. Write your favorite features down and read them when you’re feeling like having a self-pity party. It will turn your around quickly!
